I am searching for any information on any Winona's that were born before 1820. I know of Winona Crawford, Winona Pazi married to Robert Hakewaste, Winona Zee married to Joseph Jeffries. If anyone knows of other spouses married to these women please let me know. Or if you know other Winona's born back then let me know thier history!

Winona Mnitanka, she was the wife of Charles Mnitanka aka Waundegi.

So what is the history of Winona Mnitanka. What band was she from, what year did she die? Also who was she married to? And where can I get this information? I guess that'll do for now! Thanks

I believe she was born in canada in the early 1800's. she married charles mnitanka or waundegi. they had one daughter judith wakeman. my grandma winona froze to death when she was trying to reach her sister Martha Standing Cloud and her daughter Judith when she learned they were sent to crow creek. her and my grandpa charlie where in canada hunting when the outbreak occured.

winona (abigail) crawford was married 3x's. 1st to narcisse franiere then to victor renville, then to joseph renville
winona Abigail then married Joseph Akipa and had 2 sons with him.Akipa was not a Renville to begin with. he took the Renville name because of his admiration for them.

Say, can you see any relationship from Abagail Crawford to Wakute or Mary Jane Wakute? Do you know anything about Winona Crawford's siblings? The descendants of Tatankamani? Anything you can tell me would be great!

HI Tamara,
My inlaws are descendants of Tatankamani's. There is rumor that Mary Wakute was listed on Sam Red Wolfs death certificate? Sam Redwolf had Tatankamani's original documents when he died in 1930. The redwing family down in Missouri has his medals.THese 2 sides of familys are related to Tatankamani.
I also no the Renvilles in Sissiton say that Tatankamani was one of there Grandfathers also.

Wow! -and so nice to "see" you back! We missed you... or at least I did! I would have loved to tag along on your journey's but my kunsi still needs me and I am enjoying my time with her. You are correct that the Renvilles connect to Tatankamani too. It would be interesting to see a family tree.. do you have one? I will harrass you via telephone later when I get a chance. I am taking the kunsi s out to dinner tonight and it takes some preparation! Where to dump the kids, find shoes that are not green from mowing my grandpa's huge yard, see if the only atm machine in town is functional -not to mention if I even have funds after powwow weekend!

tatankamani aka chief red wing, is abigail crawford grandfather on mother's side. abigail married two different renville's supposibly not related to each other. i need a connection between redday and renville's other than abigail's son thomas married jonah redday's daughter laura.

Mary Jane Faribault was the daughter of David Faribault and Nancy McClure Faribault. David Faribault a fur trader in Minn., was "mixed blood", the son of an Indian mother and Jean Baptiste Faribault, who was one of the first Frenchmen to engage in the fur trade in Minn. Nancy McClure was the daughter of Winona, a descendant of Sioux chiefs for many generations and Lieutenant James McClure who w as stationed at Ft. Snelling. When Nancy was a few months old, her father was ordered to Florida and died there the following spring. As he had made provision for his wife and daughter before he left Ft. Snelling Nancy was able to get an education. She was constantly admonished by her mother to learn to live like a white woman; consequently Nancy attended mission schools and lived for several years in the homes of the Christian missionaries in Minnesota. Nancy McClure's mother was the daughter of paul Mazakutemani and Unktomane(Walking spider).they had 4 sons and two daughters. the eldest was the wife of Lt. McClure.Reference: Old Traverse des Sioux.

I have a winona zidan who was married to Joseph Jefferies - is this the same person as your winona zee? She could have had a second husband after J.J.

I believe that Elizabeth's name was winona zidan and her parents were miniapi and kutepe.

He took the Renville surname because he admired Joseph Renville. He and winona Crawford had two sons, one nicknamed charlie Brown and I don't remember whothe other son was. |
